want a new style of education.
Marc Prensky, the creator of the term “digital natives” and “digital immigrants” admits that actually these terms are “now obsolete.” In today’s technologically dependent society and world, and especially in our classrooms it is easy to assume that students and the young generations are born into the digital world with a natural ability to use informational and communicative technology. As educators we are mistaken and are making false generalizations that may have good intentions, to promote and make the classroom setting and material appealing with the use of technology. However, it’s erroneous to assume that everyone likes using technology and everyone is good at using it. As Technology in Education mentions in their text, “students are not always digitally literate in using technology to support their learning. This is particularly evident when it comes to student use of technology as consumers of content rather than creators of content specifically for academic purposes.” It is also important, in my opinion, to consider the socio-economic statuses of our students. Not all students have the same access to technology and other resources.
